Well-being Champions
The Wellbeing Champions are the pupil's voice and are commited to improving all aspects of school life.
They are focusing on the Somerset Wellbeing Framework's 3 pillars of wellbeing: Belonging, Relationships and Lifestyle.
- Making sure all students feel they belong in St Benedict's and the wider community.
- Ensuring children have positive relationships with staff and their peers.
- Education over the importance of a healthy lifestyle: food, sleep and being active.
These pillars provide the foundations for supporting children’s health and wellbeing. If practised and explored from an early age they can make a real difference to an individual’s emotional health and wellbeing.

Belonging is a sense of connection with a group or institution. When pupils feel included and connected to school, they are more likely to participate in the school community and achieve academic success.
Key aspects of belonging are linked to feeling:
- Connected and included
- Safe
- Respected and valued
- A sense of purpose
Respectful Relationships are the glue that holds a positive school community together and includes all relationships: peer to peer, pupils to staff, governors, visitors and the wider community. This also includes relationships with ourselves which is fundamental to how we treat each other.
Key aspects of positive relationships are linked to feeling:
- Loved and cared for
- Listened to
- Supported in times of need
- Enjoyment of fun
Lifestyle behaviours such as; how well we eat, how much sleep we get and how active we are can really impact on our mood, ability to cope and function in everyday life. In relation to executive functioning and cognitive capacity children and young people’s brains are still in development so things like concentration, decision making, problem-solving and many aspects of learning are dependent on and benefit from good levels of basic nutrition, sleep and activity.
Key aspects of maintaining a healthy lifestyle are:
- Diet
- Sleep
- Activity
Projects
Last year, the Wellbeing Champions organised 'Regulation Stations' for each classroom linked to the Zones of Regulation that we introduced earlier in the year. This has supported the Relationships aspect of the Wellbeing Framwork as it helps children to regulate and understand thier own emotions and feelings.
Each class will have a Regulation Station and the Wellbeing Champions have made videos to explain how each of the items could be used.
The children also worked on the 'belonging' strand and started creating a quiet, calm space in the KS2 garden for children to enjoy at breaktimes.

2026 Projects!
This year, the Wellbeing Champions have been working in partnership with the Chaplaincy Group to create a sensory prayer garden. They have already secured £500 in funding from the Mendip Round Table and have purchased raised beds to support the development of the space. The project provides a calm, inclusive environment for reflection and connection, linking clearly to both the Belonging and Lifestyle strands of the Wellbeing Framework.
We can't wait to see this project grow and the positive impact it will have on our community.
